Chrome Extension Privacy Policy
Website Traffic Checker & SEO
Last updated: June 15, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how the Website Traffic Checker & SEO Chrome extension (the "Extension"), operated by Boring Marketing ("we", "us", "our"), handles information. The Extension audits the on-page SEO of the page you are viewing and shows an estimated organic traffic figure for its domain.
The short version
- The on-page SEO audit runs entirely in your browser — the page's title, meta tags, headings, links, images and structured data are read locally and never sent to us.
- To show a traffic estimate, the Extension sends only the domain name of the active tab (e.g. "example.com") to our server, which returns an estimate. We do not receive the page's content, your browsing history, or any personal data.
- We do not track your browsing, run in-extension advertising trackers, build profiles, or sell your data.
1. What the Extension does
When you open the Extension on a web page, it reads the page's publicly visible on-page SEO signals (title, meta description, headings, canonical and robots tags, links, images, structured data, detected technologies) directly in your browser and displays an audit. Separately, when you request a traffic or SEO-metric estimate, it asks our server for an estimate keyed to the page's domain name.
2. Information processed on your device (not sent to us)
- On-page SEO data read from the page you are viewing. This is analyzed locally and displayed to you; it is not transmitted to us.
- Your settings, including an optional saved email address and, if you upgrade, your Pro license key — stored in your browser's local storage.
3. Information sent to our servers
- The active tab's domain name (not the full URL, not the page content) — sent when you request a traffic/SEO estimate, so we can return that estimate. Estimates are cached by domain to limit lookups.
- For Pro features: your license key and the domain you are checking — sent so we can authorize the request and return the premium data (authority, ranking keywords, local rank, tech stack). We do not receive your page content or browsing activity.
We do not sell this information, share it with third parties for their own use, or use it to build advertising profiles.
4. Permissions and why we request them
- activeTab & scripting — to read the on-page SEO signals of the tab you are on, only when you open the Extension.
- tabs — to detect the active tab's URL so we can identify its domain for the estimate and pre-fill the audit.
- storage — to save your settings, optional email, and Pro license key locally.
- host access (our API domain) — to send the domain name to our server for the traffic/SEO estimate. The Extension does not have background access to other sites.
5. What we do not do
- We do not collect your browsing history or the content of the pages you visit.
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your data.
- We do not run third-party analytics or advertising trackers inside the Extension.
- We do not send the full URL of pages you visit — only the bare domain, and only when you request an estimate.
6. Chrome Web Store Limited Use disclosure
Our use of information received through the Extension adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Information is used only to provide the user-facing features described above, is not transferred to third parties except as needed to deliver those features (and never for advertising), is not sold, and is not used for creditworthiness or lending.
7. Data retention and deletion
Settings stored on your device remain until you remove them or uninstall the Extension. Cached estimates are keyed only to public domain names and contain no personal data. You can request deletion of any data we hold at [email protected].
8. Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
